YOUR BODY AND DRUGS

Sorry for the long absence. I have been contemplating a new direction for this blog. So with that in mind I would like to talk to about the effects of drugs on your body.  So to start this off, let’s look at drugs from a medical perspective. Drugs are formulated to ease pain, enable you to rest, keep you from becoming angry, overcome feelings of anxiety, as well as hopelessness. They are also able to help you handle stress, arouse sexual excitement, and drop your weight.

It’s highly likely that you started using drugs simply because you wanted to fit in with your friends. Why not? Everybody else around you was using them. So that made it even easier for you to start using them as well.

Drugs have an effect on us in many ways. Our society views drugs as the answer to all of our problems. With this mindset it is easy to believe that they can cure us from whatever may be troubling us. But think about the statement for a minute. If that were really true, wouldn’t the world have been cured of all its evils a long time ago? And why is it that every new pill is advertised as being the next “wonder drug.”

Obviously, this is where things get a little jacked up. People become addicted to substances not because they’re bad for you. They like having that feeling of euphoria from using drugs. It becomes a problem when you have to have it in order to cope with everyday living. And it becomes an even bigger problem when you feel you can’t make it through the day without using.

This is how addictions are formed. But then again, you’re a smart person and you already knew that. You’re not going to let yourself get to the point of using drugs to escape life’s everyday problems, are you? You know how easy it is to become addicted before you even know what’s happening. So you’re good. No problems here. Right?

Okay enough of this! It’s time to be honest with yourself and take a good, hard look at the person staring at you in the mirror. Look at the person you’ve become. You’re jacked up. You’ve got bloodshot eyes, your house is a wreck, and you haven’t visited your family in months. In fact, you’ve been avoiding all the people who care about you because all they want to talk about is how bad you need help. Let’s face reality here. It’s time to evaluate yourself and see what the problem is. Stop reading this for a minute and go to the nearest mirror and ask yourself just one question. “Are there times in my life when I sometimes wonder if I really do have a problem?”

If you have a hard time answering that question or if the answer is yes, then you probably do have a problem with addiction. If you did answer yes then you are ready to continue reading. So much of the time, people that are using drugs will deny they have a problem, or even worse, will hide it from everyone, including themselves by making excuses. Why is this? It’s only natural for you to defend yourself. Especially if it is from accusations that could be damaging to your well-being, as you perceive it. But every so often these defenses will break down and cause you to reflect on what is going on in your life. It is during this time of reflection you think that just maybe, you might have a problem. So if you think you might have some struggles in this area of your life, chances are you do.  To be continued…
